A team, led by Inspector Neeraj Sarna, SHO of the Mani Majra police station, arrested the suspect, Vishal Gupta (41). Gupta’s mother Rani Bala is also a suspect in the case.

Complainant Gurmit Singh, a resident of Panchkula, had reported that a deal to buy a house at Mani Majra was finalised for Rs45 lakh. The complainant gave Rs15 lakh through a cheque and Rs1 lakh in cash to the suspects and July 7, 2019, was finalised as the date for executing the registry. However, the suspects did not appear on the day.

The police said during the inquiry, it came to light that the property to be sold was not in the name of the suspects. After registering a case under Sections 406, 420 and 120 of the IPC, the police arrested Vishal. He was produced in the court today and sent to judicial custody. — TNS
