Massive crater puts commuters at risk, Mohali residents decry delay in repair

Residents expressed their frustration at the authorities’ alleged failure to fix an oversized crater on the Phase-9 and Phase-10 road despite the threat it poses to commuters.

They complain that nearly half of the main road sunk around 15-20 days ago, obstructing the smooth flow of traffic.

“Two barricades have been kept there but no one has moved an inch here for past one month. Residents are facing problems as a bottleneck is created here every evening,” said Bishan Singh a senior citizen staying nearby.

Notably, the road was widened and relaid recently.

Locals said the earth beneath the patch has sunk, while nearby shopkeepers complained that the dug-up earth has created slush and slippery road conditions here.

Ironically, this stretch of road was widened after work lingered here on for more than a year.

A little further, the Phase-10 and Phase-11 road is also in bad condition.

Traders and residents of the area discussed the issues being faced by them with the Punjab State Traders Commission member Vineet Verma.

Verma interacted with members of the trading community and local residents, taking serious note of their concerns. He also met officials from various departments, including Ramandeep Singh (SDO, Public Health Department), Dharminder (SDO, Municipal Corporation), and Akashdeep Singh (SDO, GMADA), and directed them to take to address the issues.

A major concern highlighted was the inconvenience caused due to the ongoing sewerage project in Phase 11, which had disrupted commercial activities and daily movement.

Responding to a demand raised by Market Association Presidents Pawan Garg and Mittal regarding the removal of sewerage debris from parking areas, Verma instructed the Public Health Department to ensure that debris are cleared alongside the ongoing work, so that public inconvenience is avoided.
