Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla has submitted a memorandum to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria for formulation and implementation of a land pooling policy in Chandigarh, modelled on successful policies in Haryana and Delhi.

She, along with councillors Satinder Singh Sidhu, Bimla Dubey and Gurcharanjit Singh, met Kataria at the Punjab Raj Bhavan.

They highlighted the increasing urban pressure and the limitations posed by the absence of a structured land acquisition mechanism in the city. They emphasised that a land pooling policy would offer a fair, transparent and participative framework, ensuring landowners’ rights while accelerating planned urban development in areas like Sarangpur, Dhanas, Manimajra, Dadumajra, Maloya and peripheral villages.
