MC proposes meat ban in areas around Mansa Devi Temple

Restaurants, cafes in areas of MDC to be affected

The Municipal Corporation of Panchkula today issued a public notice proposing a ban on animal slaughter, sale and purchase of meat and meat products in areas in the vicinity of Mata Mansa Devi Temple. According to MC officials, when enforced the ban will affect restaurants, cafes, etc operating in the area notified. The proposal is based on a resolution passed by the civic body on September 29, 2022, and is being enforced under Sections 320, 329, 331 and 333 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.

The prohibition is applicable to the areas specifically marked in the map attached with the gazette notification, boundaries of which are clearly defined with reference points A, B, C and D. The southern boundary starts at Mata Mansa Devi Temple and runs along the border of the MDC and the Cantonment area towards Singh Dwar, covering Sector 5, MDC. The western boundary extends from Singh Dwar along the border of MDC and Chandigarh, reaching the light point near the Chandigarh boundary close to IT Park. This covers MDC Sectors 5A, 5B and 6. The northern boundary runs from this light point near IT Park towards Dolphin Chowk, extending up to the boundary of Sector 4, MDC, and the reserved forest. The eastern boundary begins at the reserved forest boundary and the boundary of Sector 4, MDC, continuing along the eastern side back to Mata Mansa Devi Temple, covering Sector 5D, MDC.

The civic body has invited objections from the public, which can be submitted within one month from the date of publication of the notice. Residents, business owners and other stakeholders in these areas can submit objections to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation.
