Mercedes crash: Forensic team visits spot

A three-member team from Forensic Science Laboratory, Phase 4, Mohali, visited the Mercedes crash site at Radha Soami Chowk in which three persons were killed and three injured on March 20. The team, led by Dr Ashwani Kalia, Deputy Director, took samples of the wreckage from the site and inspected the mangled remains of two vehicles involved in the crash.

“The team visited the spot to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and the speed of the vehicles at the time of the accident. We have taken samples from the spot and examined the vehicles at the police station. Based on the evidence, a report will be submitted to the authorities,” Kalia said.

Sixteen days after three persons lost their life and three were injured, the police have failed to arrest the two accomplices of Mercedes driver Samrat Singh. The 18-year old was arrested after over 24 hours, but the teenaged duo belonging to influential families continue to elude the police. Mataur police station SHO Ashok Kumar said, “The forensic team collected technical evidence. The two accomplices are still absconding. They will be arrested soon.”
