The Ministry of Home Affairs today gave the final nod to the proposal of the UT Administration for the externally-aided project of the MC for 24×7 water supply in Chandigarh with a financial outlay of Rs 576.57 crore for the 2022-27 period.

UT Adviser Dharam Pal said Chandigarh had signed an MoU with Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) in 2016 wherein the AFD had agreed to support among other sectors water supply, sanitation and waste management.

He said the primary goal of the project was to switch from intermittent supply to 24×7 supply. Among the other aims was water resource augmentation through leakage reduction. At present, work on the dedicated 24×7 water supply is on in Mani Majra. —TNS
