Minerva Academy FC cemented its reputation as a powerhouse in the U-13 I-League playoffs by registering a resounding 8-0 victory over East Bengal.

It was the final playoff group-stage match against East Bengal, which finished second in Group A with 20 points two behind Mohun Bagan, entered the tie with a reputation for their attacking prowess. In the group stages, East Bengal had stunned Mohun Bagan 4-1 in their first meeting and narrowly lost the return fixture 1-0. Their journey to the playoffs included victories over Mohammedan Sporting, Bengal Football Academy, BMSC, and Adamas United.

The Minerva youngsters were on fire as Gurba stole the show with a stunning hat-trick, while L Kipgen and Mamesh each scored a brace, and Rimson added another goal to the tally. The team’s attacking prowess was on full display, leaving the East Bengal defence struggling.

The side scored 24 goals in just three matches The academy will now face top-notch teams like Punjab FC and Community FC in the final round.
