The police have apprehended a minor boy of Badh Majra for stabbing his friend, Anil Kumar (18), a vegetable vendor, to death in a dispute over Rs 1,000 at Mohali village here.

The police said the victim had lent money to the suspect. Around 4:30 pm yesterday, the victim was sitting with his mother, Kusum Kumari, in a street when the suspect passed by. The victim, who used to sell vegetables on a rehri with his father, asked the boy to return his money, but the latter left saying that he would return soon.

After 20 minutes, the suspect returned and asked Anil to accompany him to a chowk where he stabbed him in the neck. Meanwhile, the victim’s elder brother, Dharmendra, a resident of Mohali village, rushed him to the Phase-6 hospital where he died during treatment. The police raided the suspect’s hideouts in Badhmajra village and arrested him.

On a statement of the deceased’s brother, the police have registered a case at the Phase 1 police station.
