A boy, who has been missing for the past 15 years, was reunited with his family by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Haryana Police crime branch today.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar and Head Constable Bhupinder Singh of the AHTU handed over Ranjit to his father Domi Sharma at Old Age Home in Sector 15.

Rajesh Kumar said the boy was found sitting under a flyover near Maheshpur village in Sector 21 on December 21. He said their team produced him before the Panchkula SDM, who directed them to keep the boy at Old Age Home. He said after counselling, the boy informed about himself and his father Domi, a resident of Sadhugarh village in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. He said they then contacted the control room in Bhagalpur, which confirmed that there was no place like Sadhugarh there. However, they informed them that there was a village with this name in Navgachia.

The ASI said they then contacted Sadhupur village head Sanjay Mandal and gave him details about Ranjit. He said Sanjay informed him that Ranjit’s father had lodged a missing complaint with the police about 15 years ago after searching for him.

He said today, Domi Sharma and his brother-in-law came to Old Age Home where Ranjit immediately recognised his father. He said the AHTU team handed over the boy to his family in the presence of Superintendent of Police Ghambhir Singh after completing the formalities.
