Ever heard of ‘chocolate and challan’ policy! Well, carrot and stick policy is popular, but then the Mohali police are well-known for doing things differently. The guardian angels of city roads have embarked on a new mission and new resolutions this year.

A chocolate for responsible road user, and a challan for offender. On January 9 and 10, an unprecedented 1,662 traffic slips were handed to offenders in Mohali. Come January 11, cops changed the track, and started handing out chocolates to responsible drivers.

DSP (Traffic) Karnail Singh, with a smile on his face, was seen presenting chocolates to those drivers who were wearing seat belts and followed traffic rules at the Chhatt light point. In the evening, those who drove on low beam got the prize.

Mohali traffic cops’ smiling faces, oily tongue, and chocolate giving spree are part of the initiatives during the Road Safety Month, which began on January 1.

Singh said, “Many seminars and road campaigns are lined up in the days to come.”

So whether you are on a two wheeler or a four wheeler, follow traffic rules keenly. And watch out for goodies and fancy helmets in the days to come!
