Mohali cops nab carjackers after chase
Mohali, July 16
The police arrested two youths involved in car snatching and other incidents after a brief chase in Sector 101 this morning. The suspects, Vicky, alias Kala, of Ferozepur, and Dharminder Singh, alias Sunny, of Kapurthala, were nabbed by a team from the IT City police station after the bike they were trying to escape on hit stones on the roadside and fell. The police said that the suspects sustained injuries, and they were taken to the hospital.
Mohali SSP Sandeep Garg said the duo was involved in several snatching incidents. He said two pistols and about four rounds were seized from them. The SSP said the bike the suspects were using to flee was also stolen. He said one of the suspects has been a PO in a murder case since 2017.
DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal said, “On July 12, the duo tried to snatch his taxi at gunpoint at the airport road around 1.30 am. The victim, Menpal, sustained wounds from a sharp-edged weapon on his chest and back, and he had to be admitted to the hospital. The victim said he got a ride from Airport Road to Zirakpur, adding that when he reached the location, two youths boarded the taxi. He also said that when the taxi reached Airport Road, one of the youths pointed a pistol at him and asked him to get out of the vehicle. The victim resisted their bid and raised an alarm. The duo panicked and tried to fall; however, one of them left his mobile phone and took the victim’s phone.”
