The district saw a 12.93 per cent increase in the number of active Covid cases as 192 persons tested positive for the virus in the past three days. On November 2, there were 526 active cases in the district, which increased to 594 today. During a random survey of the markets in the city and other places in the district, people were found moving around without a mask, exposing themselves to the deadly virus. The district health authorities have been warning people not to move out without a mask.

Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said there was no sudden spike in Covid cases. A large number of test reports were pending. Their results increased the number of cases. He said the number of pending cases had been more as compared to the tests conducted in a day. There was no reason to panic, but people should follow the Covid-related precautions and move out of the house only if unavoidable.

One death, 61 more test Covid positive

One more fatality and 61 new cases were reported from the district during the past 24 hours. Among the new cases, 49 were from Mohali (urban), eight from Kharar, three from Dhakoli and one from Dera Bassi. Further, 39 patients recovered from the virus.

As of now, the district has seen 12,659 cases and 11,823 recoveries. There are 594 active cases with 242 deaths in the district.
