Mohali zila parishad, panchayat samiti polls adjourned

Elections for electing members of Zila Parishad Mohali and Panchayat Samiti Mohali have been adjourned by the State Election Commission. These elections were due on December 14.

The decision to adjourn the elections was taken by the Commission on the recommendation of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats, said State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhari.

“The State Election Commission has been informed by Department of Rural Development and Panchayats that in view of the notification dated November 28, 2025, issued by Department of Local Government, 15 villages adjoining Municipal Corporation, Mohali, have now been merged into the boundaries of Municipal Corporation, Mohali. The Department of Rural Development and Panchayats has clarified that due to this notification, the 15 Gram Panchayats of Panchayat Samiti, Mohali, are now excluded from the jurisdiction of the concerned Panchayat Samiti/Zila Parishad Mohali area. As there is now a significant change in the boundaries of Panchayat Samiti Mohali as well as Zila Parishad area, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats is required to carry out the fresh reorganisation of the same,” he said, clarifying the reason for the adjournment of the election.

These elections will be adjourned till such time as fresh reorganisation of these zones is not carried out by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats. To clarify further, the election to elect members of Panchayat Samiti Dera Bassi, Panchayat Samiti Kharar and Panchayat Samiti Majri will proceed as scheduled, he said.
