The Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC) annual general election, scheduled for January 25, is all set to be an intense contest with the current ‘Club Captain’ announcing his candidature for the top post, alongside his 11-member executive team.

Captain Mohanbir Singh, who is the current ‘Club Captain’, will be vying for the top post. The club is likely to witness a stiff contest between him and Major Rajinder Singh Virk (Lalli), which will decide the 31st president of the club.

The last House was elected unopposed.

Captain Mohanbir is seeking election to the top post for the first time.

Mohanbir (Bunny) will contest the election with his team of Ajay Wadhwa, Dr Angad Sangha, APS Kahai (UV), Brig Balvinder Singh, Gursharan Sandhu (Gugi), Jaspartap Sekhon, Capt PS Chimni (Pushi), Raman Singh Gill (Guchu), Dr Shobhit Ghai and Dr Satbir.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
