Despite Panjab University authorities approving an Rs 12.5 lakh ex-gratia for the family of Aditya Thakur who was stabbed to death on campus, a hunger strike started by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) demanding resignations of the campus authorities entered its second day.

The committee is demanding immediate removal of the Dean Student Welfare (DSW) and Chief of Security, a fair and transparent investigation into lapses in student safety, restoration of an inclusive and accountable campus security system and a respectful and open dialogue with the student community.

Though a magisterial inquiry has already been marked by the UT Administration, the JAC said if the demands are not met by April 15, more students will join the hunger strike.
