National Science Day was observed at the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) here today, on the theme “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat”.

Delivering the National Science Day lecture on “Excellence in manufacturing: India-centric perspective with emphasis on industrial research”, MM Singh, former Chief Operations Officer of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, underscored the pivotal role of industrial research in shaping the future of manufacturing in the country. He also highlighted the importance of fostering a robust ecosystem for industrial research, one that aligns with the specific needs and aspirations of the nation.

A visit to the CSIO laboratories was also organised for students and teachers of various institutes, providing them with an opportunity to explore the cutting-edge technologies and innovations at the CSIO.

Meanwhile, the Defence Institute of High-Altitude Research’s (DIHAR) base laboratory in Chandigarh held technical deliberations on contemporary research and development to mark the day.

Dr Satish Kumar, former Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems, DRDO, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr OP Chaurasia, Director, DIHAR, gave an overview of the projects being undertaken at the institute and their spin-off benefits for the local population of Ladakh.

A commendation certificate and a medal were awarded to Dr Narendra Singh, Additional Director and head of the base laboratory, for his work on the “Application of simulation and modelling techniques for designing a passive underground storage facility for fresh vegetables during winters in Ladakh”.
