Nature lovers attend tree walk, get plants as prize

The Chandigarh Tree Lovers Group conducted an informative and engaging tree walk in the Bougainvillea Garden this morning, which was attended by over 40 enthusiastic nature lovers.

Dr Harjeet Singh and Prof Rajnish Wattas informed the participants about the genesis of the Leisure Valley as a continuous green belt across the city and also emphasised the role of this green belt in the environmental health of the city.

As they made their way through the lush green grounds of the garden, Dr Harjeet appraised the participants about the various trees, plants and shrubs in the garden.

He also showed some trees, which were planted as part of the original landscaping scheme of the city but very few are left in the city. He also doled out special tips to recognise trees of different types by the colour and texture of their leaves and shapes besides giving interesting information about their places of origin, and the times at which their flowers bloom.

The mixed group of people ranging from a decade-old member of the group to first time teen participants were eager to know more about the Green Heritage of the city and were not left disappointed by the experts.

At the conclusion of the walk a quiz was held with 10 winners walking away with specially chosen plants as prizes. As always, the walk ended with many conversations about plants, trees and their upkeep.
