The 17-year-old victim is a student of class X while the suspect is her neighbour. In her complaint, the victim stated that the suspect first tried to befriend her. Later, he threatened her with dire consequences and took her to his house nearby where he violated her. On her complaint, a case under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC and the POCSO Act was registered at the Balongi police station on December 22.
Youth arrested for snatching
Chandigarh: The police have arrested a Ballomajra resident, Arun, 21, for snatching a mobile phone of Maloya resident Hari Om in Sector 40 on Thursday. The police said one of his accomplices was still absconding with the bike used in the crime. A case under Section 379-A and 411 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. TNS
Cyclist hurt in accident
Chandigarh: A cyclist was injured after a four-wheeler hit him in Sector 8. The complainant, Puneet Gupta, alleged that a MUV driver hit his son Akashat Gupta, 14 , who was riding a bicycle in front of his residence on December 19. The boy sustained injuries and was taken to the GMSH-16. A case under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 3 police station. TNS
Cross-country athletics c’ship
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Athletics Association will organise State Cross-Country Athletics Championship at DAV College, Sector 10, on December 25. Athletes residing, studying or working in Chandigarh will be eligible to participate in the championship. Senior citizen duped of Rs 1L
Mohali: A fraudster siphoned off Rs 1 lakh from the bank account of Lakhinder Singh, a senior citizen, on Friday morning. Singh, a resident of Phase 11, here, said he received a call in the morning. The caller, claiming himself to be from the Electricity Department, directed the victim to make some changes on the app through his mobile phone. After sometime, he started getting messages regarding transactions. The senior citizen, who is suffering from partial paralysis, reported the matter on the national portal for cyber crime and approached the bank. He was later sent to the cyber cell where his complaint was registered. TNS
