An ambulance carrying the body of a newborn girl from the PGI rammed into a stationary truck near Bhankarpur in the wee hours of Friday. Her twin brother was killed while father Sandeep Kumar (28), a resident of Kaithal, was injured in the accident. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Panchkula.

The ambulance driver also suffered injuries.

The police said the twins were born a month ago but were ill. The girl died at the PGI on Friday, while the boy was discharged. The family was taking the body of the child to home when the accident took place around 3 am.

The Dera Bassi police have registered a case against the ambulance driver who fled the spot. The body of the child has been kept at the mortuary of the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital. It would be handed over to the family after post-mortem, the police said.
