The body of an unidentified woman, apparently newlywed, was recovered from the Bhakra Canal here on Saturday night.

The police said the victim had not been identified yet. The police informed that they received a call from divers that they had fished out a body from the canal.

The investigating officer said the woman, aged between 22 and 25, was wearing traditional wedding bangles and hence, appeared to be a newlywed. The police said they had kept the body at the mortuary of Government Rajindra Hospital and had started an investigation into the incident.

The investigating officer added that they had already informed the nearby police stations in adjoining districts about the body, which came from the Sirhind side of the canal.
