The occasion was graced by Dr Kanu Thind, PCS, Director of NIIFT, officials from Museum and Art Gallery, and PSIEC.
The event aimed to honour and promote India’s rich handloom heritage — a sector not only deeply rooted in tradition and sustainability but also among the highest employment generators in the country. The entire venue was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Indian heritage, featuring beautiful displays of phulkari, khadi, woven carpets, sarees, khes, and live weaving demonstrations at charkhas and weaving looms. These provided visitors with a deeper understanding of the art and effort behind every handcrafted textile.
Dr Simrita Singh, Principal of NIIFT, explained that NIIFT is committed to nurturing young designers for the textile sector — equipping them with knowledge, skills, and appreciation for traditional crafts like handloom weaving. Admissions to NIIFT for this year are open until August 14.
