In a major step towards easing patients’ pain, the PGI has come up with a “one-stop” Central Sample Collection Centre (CSCC) at Nehru Hospital.

Prof Vivek Lal, PGI Director, said, “The harassment which patients had to undergo will be significantly reduced. Before this, they had to go from one end of the PGI to the other. Now, all collections will be at Nehru Hospital. I thank all HODs for their invaluable support.”

The harassment which patients had to undergo will be significantly reduced. Before this, they had to go from one end of the PGI to the other. Now, all collections will be at Nehru Hospital. Prof Vivek Lal, PGI Director

PGI Contract Workers Union chairman Ashwani Kumar Munjal said, “This is a patient-friendly reform, which will bring the desired relief and there will be optimum use of manpower and resources. Now, patients and their attendants will not be required to make the rounds of sample collection centres in Research Block A, Endocrinology room, Research Block B and various other laboratories outside Nehru Hospital in extreme weather conditions. Moreover, the decade-old timings of the Indoor Sample Collection Centre have been increased from 9.30 am to 1 pm in place of 11 am. Further, Emergency Microbiology in the ATC will receive samples from 2 pm onwards.”

The CSCC will receive samples for Medical Microbiology, Medical Parasitology, Immunopathology and Endocrinology from all wards of Nehru Hospital from 9.30 am to 1 pm on all working days.

After 2 pm, the Medical Microbiology samples will be received at the Emergency Microbiology lab (leveI 2 ATC, Room No. 25) except blood culture samples, which shall go to Medical Microbiology Blood Culture Lab (room No. 208, second floor, Research Block-A) directly till 5 pm.

Once the payment for a particular investigation is made by the patient’s attendant, the nursing officer concerned will put a “payment done” stamp on the requisition form and send the sample to the CSCC/haematology lab/biochemistry lab by the hospital attendant of the area.

The hospital attendant will be required to collect the sample from the wards along with the respective requisition form and submit the samples pertaining to Medical Microbiology, Medical Parasitology, Immunopathology and Endocrinology in the CSCC and the hospital attendants from the Medical Microbiology, Medical Parasitology, Immunopathology and Endocrinology department shall collect the samples from the CSCC to be transported to the respective laboratories.

The samples pertaining to haematology and biochemistry will be carried by the hospital attendant to the respective lab – haematology samples to the Emergency Haematology lab (room No. 24-C, second floor, Emergency Nehru Hospital) round the clock.

Some special tests such as haemolytic anaemia will be received up to 1.30 pm. All biochemistry samples will be received in the biochemistry lab round the clock.

In outpatient areas of the institute, all sample collection centres will function from 8 am to 1 pm and the “re-engineering process” will be undertaken in the New OPD so that patients or their attendants do not have to go to multiple counters to deposit samples.

Room N. 333, Level III

Nehru Hospital has been allocated for sample collection and will be designated as the Central Sample Collection Centre, Room No. 333, level III, Nehru Hospital.
