Now, pay traffic challans via QR code at dist courts

To ease huge rush at the district courts in Sector 43 here for paying traffic challans, the court officials have introduced QR codes. People can pay their challans under both “e-challan” and “virtual courts” systems through separate QR codes.

The codes were displayed on the court premises during the ongoing Special Traffic Adalats, which will continue till September 12. Of the two codes released for paying challans, one is for the “e –challans” and the other for “virtual courts” system.

The e-challan system is meant for the challans — mostly compoundable violations — managed by the Traffic Police. Once a challan is sent to the court, the violator can pay it through the “virtual courts” online platform. All challans for non-compoundable offences are sent to the virtual courts.

At present, people pay their challans through both online modes. To enlarge the scope of this facility, the court officials have decided to introduce the QR codes.

An official said on scanning the QR codes, the respective payment gateways will be displayed. People will have to fill in necessary information regarding the vehicle number or the challan number, after which the amount will be displayed, which can be paid easily via any UPI mode. The QR codes are also available on the official website.

Extending another benefit to the residents, links of more than 4.50 lakh old challans have been reactivated. With this reactivation, the 90-day window for payment of challan has been removed.

Special Lok Adalats are being held by the Judicial Magistrates in their respective courts from September 1 to 12 (on working days) for the disposal of traffic challans. These traffic adalats are being held before the National Lok Adalat scheduled for September 13, during which other cases will be taken up.

Sources said there was a manifold increase in the backlog of traffic challans after the introduction of CCTV surveillance in the city. The courts are witnessing a huge rush for paying traffic challans, which is affecting routine cases pending for years.
