Residents can click photos or shoot videos of individuals littering in public spaces and share these through WhatsApp. The images will not only be used to identify and penalise offenders under the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules. The identity of complainants or senders will be kept confidential.

Four violators were issued challans last evening time through surveillance footage from CCTV cameras. The WhatsApp initiative is expected to further strengthen such enforcement measures.

Besides WhatsApp, the citizens can also register complaints related to sanitation services through Swachhata App and I’m Chandigarh App. These platforms allow for easy submission and tracking of grievances related to waste collection, cleanliness and sanitation maintenance.
