The centenary torch for 100 years of the Dentistry in India started from Indian Dental Conference, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and reached Chandigarh where the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Chandigarh branch, ignited it.

The torch reached the Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGI, and would be passed on to other dental institutes in the tri-city. In 1920, Dr R Ahmed founded the First Dental College of India, which was financed by starting New York Soda Fountain in Kolkata.
