Mohali, February 3

Drivers of Ola and Uber cabs continued their strike against the imposition of entry tax by the UT Administration here on the fifth day at the Dasehra ground in Phase 8, Mohali, today.

Cab drivers, especially those driving Uber cabs, alleged that the company was paying them low wages. Now, road tax imposed by the Chandigarh Administration would put financial burden on them, cab drivers added. They would continue their protest if their demands were not met, cab drivers said.

Cab drivers are demanding increased incentives as the rise in diesel prices coupled with cutbacks in riders’ fare have made their sustenance difficult. According to information commuters using cabs were harassed as no cabs were available in the city. Those who managed to avail service of cabs complained of higher rates being charged by their drivers.

Surinder Singh, a resident of Phase 7, complained that a ride from his residence to Sector 43 bus terminal cost Rs 240 on Ola cab.
