For holding investigations against MC employees for mismanagement and misuse of power, the appointment of an ombudsman has been sought.

In a letter to UT Administrator, Ajay Jagga, former member, Administrator’s Advisory Council, Chandigarh Administration, stated that as per the recommendation of the 13th Finance Commission, for proper investigation against public men with regard to corruption, the appointment of an ombudsman for local governments had been made mandatory, but till today it had not been implemented in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.

He further said at present, the local MC was under severe criticism for financial mismanagement and a feeling was growing among residents that the city was better without the MC. Besides, an ombudsman will also reduce the burden on the Administration, with regard to complaints of financial mismanagement, he added.
