The Punjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) has announced its detailed programme for elections to its 19 posts. The elections will be held on September 3 at Panjab University’s Law Auditorium from 8.30 am to 2 pm.

The voters will elect five members — president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer — for the central panel, four executive members each from group 1 (arts faculties), group 2 (science faculties), group 3 (professional departments); one executive member each from group 4 (evening studies) and group 5 (centre for distance and online education).

The preliminary list of 569 voters was released today by PUTA and the final list will be decided on August 19. According to the detailed schedule, August 22 has been fixed as the last date for filing nominations. The nominations will be scrutinised by PUTA office by 1 pm on August 22 and the valid nominations will be published the same day.

The candidates contesting the posts can withdraw on August 23 from 3 pm to 4 pm. The body will publish the final list of candidates the same day.

According to the schedule issued by PUTA, the library staff working at the AC Joshi Library and different departments (librarian, deputy librarian, assistant librarian and assistant archivist) are eligible to contest for the executive position from group 1. Also, staff working at the computer centre and different departments/offices (directors, system administrators, system managers and programmers) are eligible to contest for executive position in group 2.

The scrutiny of nomination forms will be done by returning officer Anil Monga with the help of PUTA president Amarjit Singh Naura and PUTA secretary Mritunjay Kumar.
