Owner gets 7 challans for stolen car, cops clueless

While the UT police have failed to locate a car stolen last month, the owner has received seven e-challans for traffic violations in the city.

Soma Devi, a resident of Sector 37, reported that her car, which was parked outside her house, was stolen on January 15. An FIR was registered on her complaint.

While the cops are yet to apprehend the accused or recover the vehicle, the traffic police have issued seven challans for offences, such as red light jumping and rash driving, seemingly unaware that the vehicle has been reported stolen. “We received the first challan on January 23, following which we informed the police that the accused is roaming in the city. Then we received six more challans and the latest one was issued on February 5,” she added.

The challans were recorded at various locations across the city, including Shastri Nagar light point, Kala Gram light point and Bapu Dham light point. In a desperate attempt to recover her car, the owner even searched in Nayagaon after receiving information that the vehicle had been spotted there.

“It’s shocking that the car is being driven around the city without the fear of being caught,” Soma Devi added.

This is not an isolated incident. In 2023, a Maloya resident had faced a similar ordeal as he received nine challans within nine days after his scooter was stolen.
