The Panchkula police apprehended a liquor smuggler on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch intercepted a pickup truck near Madanpur on the Ramgarh-Barwala highway. The driver, identified as Aman (22) from Uttar Pradesh, was transporting 89 boxes of illegal English liquor with an estimated market value of Rs 1.8 lakh.

Upon inspection, the police found the contraband concealed under empty crates. The driver could not provide any valid permits or licence for the liquor. He was arrested and a case was filed under Section 61(1)(A) of the Haryana Excise Act at the Chandimandir police station. Authorities have vowed to continue their crackdown on illegal liquor trade in the region.
