Panchkula DC raises concern over abandoned newborns

Expressing concern over newborns being abandoned in garbage bins and bushes, Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta today said four creches are currently operational in the district to provide a safe haven for abandoned newborns.

The facilities include the Child Care Institute, Shishu Grah, Bal Niketan, and Bal Sadan. The DC said parents who do not wish to keep their newborns can legally leave them at one of the creches, where they will be cared for and eventually put up for adoption.

clarified that no CCTV cameras are installed at the creches to respect privacy.

Gupta explained that unwanted children can be voluntarily surrendered under the JJ Act 2015 by contacting the Child Welfare Committee and the District Child Protection Unit at the New Mini Secretariat (Room No. 12 and 14) or by calling 0172-2582220.
