Panchkula: The local police have arrested a thief with three stolen tractor batteries. He has been identified as Mandeep, alias Mala, a resident of Raipur Rani. Rajat Rana, a resident of Badona Kalan village, had told the police that someone stole the battery of his tractor, which was parked near his home, on the night of March 21. A case was registered at the Raipur Rani police station. During interrogation, the suspect also admitted to having stolen three more tractor batteries from the Raipur Rani area. He was produced in a local court, which sent him to judicial custody. TNS

Amanjot to lead city T20 team

Chandigarh: Amanjot Kaur will lead the UT team for the coming Seniors Women’s T20 Tournament starting from April 18. Chandigarh has been placed in the Elite C group wherein they will be competing against the likes of Mithali Raj-led Railways, Karnataka, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The team comprises Twinkle Pathak, Monica Pandey, Amanjot Kaur (captain), Shivangi Yadav, Kumari Shibi, Priyanka Guleria, Parul Saini, Rameeza, Nisha Das, Kashvee Gautam (vice-captain), Parushi Prabhakar, Manisha Badhan, Rajni Devi, Sarah, Nandini Sharma, Anuradha Bisht, Jyoti, Shivani Thakur, Tanishqa, Jyoti Kumari, Eknoor Kaur, Mehak. Community policing event

Chandigarh: The police on Friday organised a youth volleyball tournament under the banner of the Bapu Dham Youth Sports Club, Sector 26. The event was a part of community policing programmes to keep youths away from drugs. Five teams of boys and two of girls from Bapu Dham in the age category of 14-21 years participated in the tournament. A self-defence demonstration was also given by Samvayam, a self-defence girl’s team of Bapu Dham.
