A team of the crime branch, Sector 26, on Tuesday nabbed a ‘most wanted snatcher’, who had allegedly committed over 100 snatchings across the tricity. The suspect has been identified as Vikki (36), alias Devendra Singh, a resident of Delhi.

According to the police, the suspect, along with an accomplice, had snatched a gold chain in Sector 16 here on June 4. A case in this regard was registered at the Sector 14 police station.

Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed him at Dera Bassi in Mohali district, said an official. His accomplice, identified as Sumit Kumar (24), alias Shagun, of Shiv Colony, Shastri Nagar, Karnal, was also arrested.

The suspects were produced in a district court today and remanded in two-day police custody.

The criminal was carrying a reward of Rs5,000.

Vikki was earlier arrested in 2016 for his involvement in 100 cases but could only be found guilty in around 40 of them. After getting bail, he started committing similar crimes again.

On his modus operandi, the police said Vikki used to target women pedestrians wearing jewellery. He would then commit a snatching on a motorcycle and escape. — TNS
