Panchkula’s Tanvi Gupta cracks UPSC in her 5th attempt

In a shining example of perseverance and resilience, 28-year-old Tanvi Gupta from Sector 2, Panchkula, has secured the 187th rank in the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. Her journey to this achievement wasn’t easy — it took five years of relentless effort, unwavering determination, and the courage to bounce back after narrowly missing success in her previous attempt by just one point.

A graduate with honours in economics and a master’s degree in the same field, Tanvi had also cleared the UGC NET exam in economics. Her dream of becoming an IAS officer took root during her final year at Panjab University, where she laid the foundation for what would become a long and committed UPSC journey.

Tanvi’s preparation was largely self-directed, bolstered by mains content enrichment and valuable mentorship from MK Yadav, who runs an IAS coaching institute in Delhi. She dedicated eight to nine hours each day to her studies, remaining disciplined and focused even through setbacks.

Her father, a businessman, and her mother, a homemaker, stood by her side throughout the journey, offering constant emotional and moral support. Tanvi proudly shares that there had never been an IAS, IPS, or IRS officer in her family before, making this milestone all the more meaningful.

Beyond academics, Tanvi is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer who has represented Haryana at the national level. She’s also passionate about oil painting and was an active participant in declamation and debate competitions during her school years. She studied at Hansraj Public School and Bhavan Vidyalaya in Chandigarh.

For Tanvi, the key to cracking the UPSC wasn't just about books—it was about becoming a well-rounded individual. She believes that developing one's personality and maintaining diverse interests are as crucial as academic rigor in clearing the nation’s toughest exam.
