According to sources, three suspects were involved. While one of them threw the explosive, the other two remained in the auto-rickshaw.

Authorities were alerted, prompting the arrival of senior police officials, including the DIG and SSP. Teams from fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force also reached the scene.

KK Malhotra, a retired college principal, who owns the house, was sitting in the lawn and reading a book before the incident. As soon as he went inside, the suspects arrived on the scene.

While Malhotra and his family live on the ground floor, they have tenants staying on the first floor.

A family member said they had no enmity with anyone and could not fathom why someone would target their house.

An investigation is on. Police are scrutinising the CCTV footage.
