The Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof Raj Kumar, in anticipation of the approval of Syndicate/Senate, has extended the term of Prof SK Tomar, Department of Mathematics, as Dean of Student Welfare from June 1 for a period of one year.

The Vice-Chancellor, meanwhile, in anticipation of the approval of Syndicate/Senate, has also appointed Prof Meena Sharma, University Business School, as Dean of Student Welfare (Women) from June 1 for a period of one year. Meena, an alumni of UBS, Panjab University, has more than 30 years of teaching and research experience.

Prof Ashok Kumar, Department of Hindi, has been appointed as Associate Dean Student Welfare for a period of one year.

Meanwhile, the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) has written to the Vice-Chancellor for appointing hostel wardens by inviting applications, on the basis of seniority to avoid arbitrariness. “As per information available to PUTA, the applications from eligible teachers have not yet been invited as per the past practice. A large number of teachers are aspiring to apply for the posts of wardens. It will be in the best interest of the university and teachers that all new vacancies are filled in by inviting applications from eligible teachers and then appointing them on the basis of seniority,” stated the letter.
