A Panjab University (PU) student died after the two-wheeler she was riding collided with a high-powered bike at Sector 15 here.

The victim was identified as Amrita Negi, a third-semester BA student at the Department of Evening Studies. The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Thursday on a stretch connecting a liquor vend and a petrol pump.

Police officials said a PCR team rushed severely injured victim to the GMSH, Sector 16, where doctors tried to stabilise her through the night. Amrita succumbed to her injuries on Friday evening.

The youth riding the motorcycle remained at the accident site and assisted in shifting her to the hospital. He has since been detained as investigators reconstruct the sequence of events and verify whether speeding or negligence played a role in the mishap.
