Panchkula, February 8
Though the work to get potholed roads filled in Panchkula is underway, it has made a little difference as condition of stretches across the city remains same. One such dilapidated road connects Bella Vista roundabout to Majri Chowk. The patchwork on this road, which sees VIP traffic throughout the day as it connects the DC office in Sector 1, hasn’t altered condition of the stretch.
Residents were shocked to see potholes appear on this stretch within a few days after the completion of repair work. This uneven road having rough patches definitely gives a bumpy ride primarily to motorcyclists.
When asked, Ankit Lohan, XEN, Panchkula Municipal Corporation, said, “A separate tender will be floated for the proper repair/re-carpeting of roads. We will soon be finalising estimate for the work. For temporary relief, patchwork of damaged roads is underway.”
“We have brough material for constructing roads from Panipat refinery. Patchwork will be done in a phased manner. The work on Sector 20/21 divind road, another stretch in poor condition, will start soon,” he added. When contacted, Municipal Commissioner Sumedha Kataria said, “Presently, climate isn’t favourable for constructing roads.”
Babu Ram, a student of Sector 1 Government PG College, said, Although the work to fill up wide potholes on the road connecting Bella Vista roundabout to Majri Chowk was completed a few days ago, it was like a temporary relief as the surface on the stretch had already started peeling off. Municipal Commissioner Sumedha Kataria assured to repair potholed roads in city.
