Chandigarh, December 11

Dr Rama Walia, Assistant Professor, Department of Endocrinology, PGIMER, received the prestigious PN Shah Oration from the Endocrine Society of India during its annual conference held at Nagpur.

She was awarded for her work on cushing’s syndrome, a disorder associated with increased secretion of cortisol hormone. Excessive cortisol production leads to excessive weight gain, hypertension, osteoporosis with muscle weakness.

This is one of the most enigmatic endocrine disorders with difficulties starting from establishing its diagnosis to finding its cause. The usual tumours which lead to this syndrome are less that a cm in size and are difficult to locate. The work was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Radiodiagnosis, PGIMER.

Cushing’s syndrome
