Chandigarh, January 28
Prof Sonu Goel, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGI, was awarded the Dr Harcharan Singh Oration at National Conference of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) at Mahabalipuram, Chennai.
He had already received fellowships from three prestigious public health organizations. The title of presentation was ‘Public Health Management: An emerging discipline of community medicine’. Dr Goel described how he expanded the discipline of community medicine beyond routine to practicising public health management at national and international level.
Rs 5 lakh donated
Vijay Passi, a resident of Sector 5, Chandigarh, donated Rs 5 lakh to the Poor Patient’s Welfare Fund of the PGI.
Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER, expressed gratitude to Passi for the gesture. He also exhorted the philanthropists to come forward and donate liberally for the poor and needy patients.
The donations are accepted through cheque (in favour of Director PGIMER) or cash at the poor patient cell near the main reception, Nehru Hospital, under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. — TNS
