Chandigarh, January 27

Dr RK Dhiman, Head, Department of Hepatology, PGIMER, has been appointed as the Director, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. He is also an alumnus of the institute.

Dr Dhiman completed his graduation and postgraduation from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow, in 1983 and 1987, respectively. He obtained Doctorate in Medicine (DM) in gastroenterology from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in 1991. He is working at the Department of Hepatology since 1993.

Dhiman is currently working on the elimination of viral hepatitis from India. He has been the front-runner in promoting organ donation.

He was instrumental in starting a super-speciality course (DM) in Hepatology at the PGIMER for the first time in the country and a successful liver transplantation programme at the PGI.
