For the third consecutive year, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has been ranked 2nd in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, today.

PGIMER achieved 80.06 points to trail All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi (90.6 points).

PGIMER gets 81.14 points in Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), 82.46 in Research and Professional Practices (RPC), 86.16 in Graduation Outcomes (GO), 66.08 in Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and 71.44 in Perception. Whereas, AIMS was awarded 100% in Perception, which made a marginal difference at first two positions.

In 2019, the bifurcation of PGIMER stood as 78.60 TLR, 84.47 RPC, 76.99 GO, 70.74 OI and 64.87 Perception to stand total of 77.88 points.

As many as 88 faculty members and 15 students received national/ international recognition from central government agencies in the previous session, which proved to be a major point to earn the second highest ranking. Also, in another major outcome, PGIMER scored more points in Graduation Outcomes (86.16) than the topper AIIMS (83.25). The local institute competed amongst 118 Institutes throughout the country under Medical category. Christian Medical College, Vellore, has been ranked third with 73.56 points.

“Our institute has scored 80.06 this year and improved its overall score by two points in comparison to last year. We have bagged the same position in 2019 and 2018. This position has been attained by the combined team efforts of all the faculty and staff of the Institute,” said Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER.

“Coming to second position indicates that there has been scope of improvement. Though, the AIIMS got 100% in perception, it’s hard to believe. I am not criticising anyone or the assessment, but we need to improve. In rest of the departments, we have done a fair job and excelled from AIIMS in Gradation Outcome. For us, sky is the limit and we are hopeful to attain the top spot by improving our area of deficiency,” added Ram. He also thanked Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Minister and President of the Institute, Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

GMCH-32 makes entry
