A PNG pipeline caught in flames in Dera Bassi.

The underground PNG pipeline, installed a year ago, supplies gas to Patiala, Dera Bassi, Chandigarh and Mohali areas.

Officials said the fire broke out after an earthmover damaged the pipeline during excavation work. The gas valve was closed in time to prevent any untoward incident and the supply was restored in three hours.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
