The UT police are investigating that from where ASI Vijender Singh (55) could have obtained the celphos he consumed, leading to his death in a car.

Celphos tablets were found in the car parked on the Sector 41/42 road on Tuesday evening. “We are investigating that which places the ASI visited after leaving the Sector 26 police station. It will help us establish the source of the celphos he could have consumed,” said a police official.

An autopsy was conducted today at the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, and the body handed over to the ASI’s kin.

Vijender consumed celphos hours later he escaped the CBI trap at the Sector 26 police station. The CBI had received a complaint that Vijender was allegedly demanding a bribe to favour an accused in an attempt-to- murder case. The complainant visited the Sector 26 police station to deliver the money. He allegedly asked her to place it in a file and fled the scene, apparently sensing he had been trapped.

The police said Vijender had borrowed a head constable’s car to escape.
