The bomb disposal squad covered the shell with sandbags and placed it inside an explosive-proof drum. The movement of public in the vicinity was restricted.

Senior officials, including UT SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, inspected the spot as police teams were taking precautionary measures.

A police official said the bomb disposal squad secured the area around the spot and the Army was called in for assistance.

The police have initiated an investigation at the Sector 3 police station. They said that local scrap dealers would be questioned. “It is possible that a scrap dealer found the shell and abandoned it here to avoid trouble,” an officer stated.
