Police seal six illegal road cuts in Panchkula

Looking to enhance road safety and streamline traffic, the police on Sunday sealed six illegal road cuts by installing cemented dividers. Thre drive covered targeted locations where motorists were routinely driving on the wrong side to take unauthorised shortcuts.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Crime & Traffic) Manpreet Singh had received reports that motorists at certain busy locations were exploiting illegal road cuts to drive on the wrong side, disrupting traffic flow and posing a serious risk of accidents.

A traffic police team led by Surajpur Traffic In-Charge Narendra Kumar then sealed a total of six illegal cuts — between the Parashuram Chowk and the railway crossing cut, and between the Bellavista Chowk and the Police Headquarters cut — by putting up dividers.

The team, meanwhile, ensured the closures were made in such a way that they could not be misused in the future.

According to the police, some drivers had been crossing the roads illegally and endangering not only themselves but also other motorists.

In addition to sealing the cuts, the police have written to the Municipal Corporation requesting a permanent resolution for all such illegal road openings in the city.

Meanwhile, the Panchkula police in the past seven months issued 5,688 challans for wrong-side driving and 584 for taking dangerous U-turns.

The figures underline that the police are not only acting swiftly on the ground but also maintaining constant surveillance and imposing strict penalties on violators.

The Traffic Police reiterated that their top priority is public safety and smooth traffic flow. They further urged residents not to ignore traffic rules for the sake of shortcuts, as even a moment’s negligence could result in a major accident.
