The incident took place around 9.45 pm outside a flat in Dhanas colony. According to police, Amarjit and Sunil had stepped out of the house when three to four cars pulled up near the spot. The unidentified assailants, who appeared to have been lying in wait, unleashed a volley of gunfire before fleeing. Witnesses said at least five to six rounds were fired.

Sunil suffered a gunshot wound on his hand and was rushed to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), where doctors later declared him stable.

Amarjit, believed to be the intended target, managed to escape unhurt. His two other friends, Amit and Abhishek, who were still inside the flat, were also unharmed.

Police officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur, reached the crime scene shortly after the attack. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence, and checkpoints have been set up across the city to trace the vehicles used in the crime.

The police suspect the latest shooting was a result of an ongoing gang feud. “The attackers were clearly targeting Amarjit. Sunil was injured in the crossfire but is recovering well. Raids are under way to identify and arrest the culprits,” a police officer said.

On Amarjit’s complaint, a case has been registered against unidentified assailants under sections relating to attempt to murder and the Arms Act at the Sarangpur police station.

Sarangpur station house officer confirmed that a few accused have been identified but are absconding. Police teams are conducting raids to arrest them. Along with the Crime Branch, teams from the Operations Cell and DCC are also working through their informers to track them down.
