Mohali, January 8

In view of the Assembly elections announced by the Election Commission of India, the district administration today ordered the depositing of firearms to the police station and ammunition dealers.

District Magistrate Isha Kalia, while exercising the powers vested under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, has issued orders that firearms, ammunition, explosives, flammable items and sharp weapons such as spears, tridents etc. would not be allowed in the district.

Isha Kalia said as announced by the Election Commission of India, the Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in the state on February 14.

For the smooth conduct of the polls, it was important for the gun owners to deposit their weapons, said the District Magistrate.
