Chandigarh, November 21

Three miscreants, posing as locksmiths, stole gold jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh from a house in Sector 37.

According to the police, complainant Baldev Kumar Verma (77) reported that on November 11, a youth, posing as a locksmith, was roaming outside their house. He asked him to repair the lock of his briefcase. The suspect repaired the lock and asked for the key of the briefcase. The complainant gave the keyring, which also had the key of the almirah, to the suspect. While checking the keys, the suspect bent the key of the almirah.

The complainant then asked the victim to come inside the house to repair the key of the almirah. “The suspect tried to repair the almirah key. However, he failed and left after promising to return. He returned the next day and tried again, but could not repair it. Then he left the house and returned on November 13 with his two accomplices, who repaired the key and smartly stole three pouches containing jewellery lying inside the locker of the almirah,” said a police official.

On November 20, the complainant’s daughter-in-law found the jewellery missing following which the police were informed.

The police have registered a case against unknown persons at the Sector 39 police station.
