Post-Diwali, rooftop solar panel a must for 10-marla houses too

After Diwali, the UT Administration is going to make rooftop solar power plants mandatory for residential houses measuring 250 square yards (10 marlas) and above.

On the instructions of UT Adviser Rajeev Verma, the Chandigarh Renewal Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) prepared a proposal in this regard and sent it to the Administration for approval.

Plants installed on 1,902 houses so far

• There are a total of 7,414 houses on 250 square yards and above in the city.
• At present, rooftop solar power plants are mandatory for houses on 500 yards and above.
• There are 6,408 such houses.
• As many as 1,902 house owners have installed solar power plants at their residences.
• Notices have also been issued to nearly 4,000 house owners who have failed to install solar power plants so far.

An official said the notification would be issued by the end of this month.

At present, it is mandatory to install solar power plants atop houses of 500 yards and above. Notices have also been issued to nearly 4,000 house owners who have failed to install solar power plants so far.

There are a total of 7,414 houses on 250 square yards and above in the city and 6,408 on 500 yards and above.

The UT Estate Office has issued notices to the owners of houses measuring one kanal and above to set up the solar power plant within two months. Failing to do so would lead to resumption of the property.

According to CREST, the cost of installing a 3 kilowatt solar power plant is nearly Rs 1.50 lakh and it provided a subsidy up to Rs 78,000.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the Administration has launched a campaign to install solar power plants in the city. As many as 1,902 house owners have installed solar power plants at their residences. So far, 3,500 residents have been registered under the scheme and 340 owners have applied for installation of solar power plants at their homes. Installation has been completed on 108 houses.
